Nissan Repair: 1988 z24i Hardbody Problem, fuel pump, fuel tank

Question
Here is a tip that may help some of your users. My 1988 z24i D21 truck (160000 mi, California) was running rough for a while and would fail to start sometimes. It turned out the ground wire to the fuel pump was failing at the crimp to the terminal. Wiggling the wire slightly yielded chilling results. The resistance varied from full open (at 200 ohms setting) to 0.2 ohms. Visually and mechanically the wire appeared sound. I repaired both leads to the pump and the truck is now fine. Measuring the terminal at the connector end on the outside of the fuel tank (white and blue wires) was now 2 ohms versus 5 ohms prior.

Answer
John,

Wow, that could have been an interesting experience if enough heat built up or a spark was created.  I am sure anyone that reads your thoughts will think twice when they do a fuel pump and make sure that all connections are good. Thanks for the insight for the group.
