Auto Parts: 1992 GMC JIMMY starter 4x4,vortec 4.3 v6., engine crane, gmc jimmy

Question
Hi, my starter is beginning to skip out/ not fully engage. I picked up a new one and went to install it. No problems until I tried to back it up far enought to drop it out. I squirmed it around til I couldnt hold my arms up any longer. I am assuming GM measured the clearance during design so that I would give up and take it to a shop. I refuse to give up. What have I not disassembled as to allow the starter to drop out.

Answer
Hi Bill,

All my notes here say that that starter should just slide right out. If you are having that much difficulty with this however, remove the motor-mount through-bolt from the right mount and lift the engine with an engine crane (a jack under the oil pan with a block of wood CAN be used as long as you remove BOTH motor-mount through-bolts before attempting or motor mount damage will result), the engine up an inch or two until you have access to remove the assembly. Always be careful.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information is helpful to you.
