Jaguar Repair: continuing - 1981 xj6 hot start, time switch, cold start

Question
Hi Howard,

It told me I had to ask a new question.  This is an update:

A few days ago I could not make it go into the no start mode but, I checked the wires and found two wires shorted together on the thermo time switch.  I separated them and disconnected them and got 12v on each wire.  Also, did a check on the cold start injector that you suggested by scratching the wire and feeling the injector and it was clicking.  I did not hook up the thermo time switch as an experiment and drove the car home from work.  I let the car sit and it started fairly easily (a little contrary) at all the regular test times.

I drove the car home today, let it sit 30 minutes and it would not start. I let it sit for 30 minutes.  It started with wide open throttle.  It took a while to start and was acting like an engine that is starved for gas, but finally started.
But foot all the way on the floor (with everything hooked up properly) and it begrudgingly started after a considerable amount of cranking.

The only difference between yesterday and today was that yesterday the thermo time switch was unplugged and today it was plugged in.  The temp was high end of normal both days.

Thank you again.

Bob

Answer
Only in a "NO start" condition can you test anything. So when it does not start ground the cold start injector so that it "Clicks" and see if it starts. If it does be sure to disconnect the cold start injector. This way you will know that there is nothing wrong with anything except the cold start system.

Then run the tests on the Thermo-time switch like I outlined. You found your problem so all you need to do is to finish testing to know what to replace or repair.
