Auto Parts: 1987 BMW 535i, bmw 535i, auto technician

Question
Hello I've got a 1987 BMW 535i. The car recently started to have problems running consistently, so we took it to the mechanic and I was informed that both crank sensors needed to be replaced and it would cost around $400. Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, I'm not sure whether I should put the money into this car because I fear that if these sensors are going bad perhaps other sensors will follow and leave me with a car that constantly needs repair, or I could try and sell it, what would you advise?

Answer
Hi Brent,
Depends completely on how attached to the car you are. The car is 21 years old, $400.00 for sensors after 21 years is a small price to pay.
My only advise would be to steer clear of the dealership from this point on. They are no longer trying to help you, they are about helping to fill their pockets. Find a local REPUTABLE auto technician, I know, that may take some doing, but it's better than paying $400.00 for a $19.00 sensor.
Thanks for the question, I hope this information helps you.
