Auto Parts: Check Engine light, odyssey van, honda odyssey

Question
Hi!  I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey van that has a "check engine" light that no one seems to be able to fix.  I have spent almost $600 in emission control parts, and the light is still on.  I have had 2 gas caps, and click the cap three times when I fill.  But the light is still on.  I have been to two different mechanics, who seem to come back to the Honda gas cap!!!  Now the second Honda dealer wants $600 more to repair the emissions.  What is going on?  Who can I talk with to get information and details on the emission system of my vehicle.  I believe I am ready to call Honda direct, but I want to know the emission system and parts before I call.  I am tired of the run-arounds and guessing!
Thanks!!! Mary

Answer
Hi Mary,

Go to Auto Zone and have them run a diagnostic- tell them the check engine light is on. This is a free service. They will write down what the codes are and what they are for. Then ask them to reset it and see if the light goes off. If it does not, have them run the diagnostics again and see if the codes are different, if they are not, then tell me what the codes are and their definitions.
