Auto Parts: Vauxhall Astra 1995 1.4 Auto, vauxhall astra, alternator belt

Question
Hiya,
I need to replace the auxiliary/alternator belt tensioner after the belt came off last night. I have been told that the bearing had gone. I have managed to purchase a replacement on ebay. My question is ...can i do this job myself or do i absolutely need a trained mechanic? I am not a stranger to the engine & have my husband to help me.
Thanks in advance.
Samantha.

Answer
Hi Samantha,

Ok, it's not really possible for ME to tell you what you can and can't do on an engine. I can tell you that it's not an impossible job. If you get a manual you can follow the instructions and replace the pulley, it will not be easy and if you have air tools or an impact wrench it may help-though I don't think an impact wrench could get in the space you'll have unless you drop the engine...

I'd say you can do it if you get a Haynes or Chiltons.
