Auto Parts: Repair Question, cv joint, dodge shadow

Question
I have a 1994 Dodge Shadow ES, that has a knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the front driver's wheel. It happens only when you are in gear and are accelerating. If I push in clutch or shift into neutral and press gas nothing happens. If accelerating fast, a fast thumping noise is heard and a vibration is felt. What could it be? Is it a CV Joint? How can it be fixed?

Answer
Hi,
It sounds like a CV-joint to me. Look under the front of the vehicle on the left side. Look specifically at the rubber boot protecting the axle. There are two of them, an inner and an outer. I would bet that the outer boot on yours is ripped or torn and this caused all of the grease to leak out. Once the grease is lost the CV assembly won't last long.
Thanks for the question, I hope this helps.
