Auto Parts: Suspension Question--1998 BMW 318i --E36 body, bmw 318i e36, tie rod ends

Question
Steve:

Background:  The 318i has 140,000 miles on it.  I love the car.  Recently, my wife ran over a monster curb twice--going forward then backing up.  We repaired the rear control arm, which the BMW dealer said was damaged.  After repairing it they said the tire rods needed replacing. I decided to get a second opinion and estimate.  Against my better judgment I bought new tires, thinking I would repair the tire rods after Xmas.  The tires are still fine, but the tire guys noted the tie rod ends were worn and said that I should get them fixed.

O.K. So I take the car to a reputable mechanic known for their work on BMWs.  I ask them to check out the tie rods and give me an estimate.  Instead they determine the strut is blown and the front left control arm is damaged as a result.  I asked them twice about the tie rod ends, but they insist its a combination of the strut and control arm.

Questions:
1) If all three places are right, then can I repair the strut/control arm first or should I do it all at once to save money on labor?

2) If I need to do everything at once, should I go ahead and replace the springs, struts, front control arms, bushings and tie rod ends or should I stick with 2 struts and 1 control arm?

Thanks!

Answer
for starters if you have a question on what is bad have them show you and explain it to you. ask every question you can think of. if it is legitimatly bad you should be able to tell with a simple comparison that you should ask for.  me personally if you plan on keeping the car you love replace everything at once so it can all be adjusted together. and it will save you money on labor if you work them right. if they have to remove the tie rod to replace the strut why charge you labor for both.
