Car Alarms: 1997 Nissan Altima

My Altima door safety alarm went off when I opened the driver's door. Now it will not start.  It has always triggered the passenger side but could be started again by opening the driver side with the key and starting the ignition.
How can I get my car started and disarm the alarm so this will not happen again?
