Car Alarms: 99 Grand cherokee security shuting down engine ?, jeep grand cherokee, news yell

Hello, I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Someone attempted to steal my baby! So I had to replace steering column. Now it will only run for about 2 seconds , then shuts down. Guy at key shop told me that its the security system shutting it down. Is this true ? And is there an easy fix? Can I by-pass the security system ? Thanks , Jeff. We all appreciate the help you give all of us who just can't spare a dime !

And I appreciate your difficulty but alas, the only way
to reset the SKIM transponder system in the ingition is
to have Jeep put it on the proprietary VIN code reader/writer
and reprogram the system and keys.

Wish I had better news. Yell at Jeep. :(
