Car Alarms: 2000 Honda Civic Alarm Problem, siren sound, calf area

Question
QUESTION: My daughter has gone to Afghanistan and left her 2000 Honda Civic with us. When we bought it they turned the alarm on but I do believe it is an aftermarket alarm that the dealer put in. My daughter turned it off two years ago because she had problems with it. Tonight my husband pulled in the driveway turned off the car and the alarm was going off (very faint).

I know when it is on there is a red light on the left side counsel but it is not lit. We do not have the remote since it had been turned off. Can you think of anything that could be causing it to to off even faintly and how can we turn it off without a remote?

ANSWER: Tell me what you are hearing.
Is it a really faint 6 tone siren sound?

Are the parking lights flashing and lastly,
is there a new battery in there or are you attempting
to charge the old one?

QUESTION: Faint 6 tone siren sound (same as when it would go off regularly just very faint). Lights aren't flashing. No new battery, and not attempting to charge the old one.

I have a feeling you're going to say replace the car battery.

valet
Very perceptive, yes to start, get a fresh battery in there :>).

This is important for the alarm to function, but by doing that,
you will need to rest the AFTER MARKET alarm they installed.

So, set off the alarm and then place it
into override mode. Find the Valet switch.

The "valet" switch is for after market only.
If this is an after market alarm and
also a remote starter, the antenna on the
windshield may also have a button inset into it
that is the valet override.

But normally, it's drilled into a spot near the left
knee or, calf area into a plastic panel.

See the attached photo to identify it.

Then try, key on just before cranking,
press and hold in the button for
up to 5 seconds or until you get a
responce from your siren, & lights.

Then key off. This should be reset.
Try to start it.

If it's a toggle type switch found,
key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.

This would be override.
Try and start the car.

Repeat these steps to go back into
arming mode when ready.

Good luck and please thank your daughter for
her service to me and mine.
