Car Alarms: Alarm problem, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2009 cobalt , and I have been having this problem for the last 2 weeks . My factory alarm keeps going off randomly when the car is parked for approx 30 secs then turns off. Is there anyway to disconnect the factory alarm untill I can find the problem? or and sujestions what the problem might be ? I don't set the alram when i lock the doors because my remotes dont work properly so I haven't been usuing them for the past couple months. I recently had a tow hitch install thought maybe might be something that they did , but didn't notice anything wrong all they did was tap into my signal lights.

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It sounds like it might be an aftermarket as I pulled my horn fuse to stop the noise , the noise was still there so assuming was a siren .

Answer
Car Alarms: Alarm problem, alarmtek, dash area
valet
Ok, an installer would place the valet switch in a semi
hidden area. I'd look under the dash area
for a button or, a toggle switch. When you locate it,
turn on the ignition key, press and hold in the
button (little spring loaded micro button, red or
black possibly), until the alarm chirps 1 time.
This should over ride the system, and only the
keyless entry part, if installed, would still be
operating.

The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

The next step is if wanting to remove it,
you contact a local technician to
locate it, and affect neccesary service
for you.

That should solve the troubles.

Let me know what you discover.
