Car Alarms: 2011 Dodge Ram Security System Addition, dodge ram 1500, dodge dealer

Question
Hello, I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. It came with remote locks and powered windows. I've been told by Dodge that I can not add a factory security system to the truck after it's been built. Meaning if I didn't get the security system when it was built, tough luck. I've also been told that there are no aftermarket systems that will work with the factory key fob, meaning I'll need two remotes to carry around. Any help on this? Why I can't install the factory security system afterwards and why no aftermarket will work with my key fob? Thanks, Fred

Answer
Hmmm they are at it again!
Ok, point 1. "can not add a factory security system to the truck after it's been built."
This is a total fabrication and they should be ashamed. They told you
this to increase they're bottom line at the end of the sale.
It's simply untrue.

Yes you can retrofit a car alarm/remote start/keyless entry to this vehicle
with the proper kits. I have such after market systems in my stores.

On the second issue, this one is true. The single wire negative
resisted door lock system can be controll by an after market system,
but we have no way to make the OEM remote add functionality
on this truck. You would need to emulate what the current
remote does using the after market fob and carefully use
both. Or get a spare ignition key without the lock unlock
panic feature, and park that one until ready to sell the truck.

Since the transmitter is part of the actual key fob itself,
and not a seperate remote, you can not mess with it. Only add
to the truck with a new system and use both or use the spare key.

Wish there was a tricky way round it, but no.

As far as retro fitting the original OEM alarm, again, the
closing salesman is telling a bald face lie. You can walk into ANY
Dodge dealer and have them install the part and scynch
the key controller to it. I really Hate salesman at car dealerships.
They treat people like they are all stupid!

Good question, thanks for that and good luck.
I hope this was useful.
