Car Alarms: car alarm issues, alarmtek, turning the key

Question
I have a 1997 Merc Marq. We bought it used with fob, not factory issued.  It does the doors and trunk.  We have had the car for 3 yr. Suddenly one day it wouldn't start and just turning the key the sirens and lights and all went off, but the car wouldnt start. It wouldnt even turn over. We pulled a fuse and the car started, in the off position. I turned the key to on drove it home. The battery died then. We bought a new battery, but I noticed that the battery volts kept jumping all over and the key would lock itself and just "tick" now and then. We changed the alternator and the belt. It was good for two days then it did it again, just opening the door the panic sirens and all would come on but the car wouldn't start. I could stop the noise by pressing the unlock button, but the car wouldnt start and putting the key on started all the noise again.  I don't know if the car came with a remote starter or not, but that appears to be the logical explanation, only why would it do this now, and how do I correct it, or am I wrong and something else is wrong?
