I can't disable the "chirp" when I lock/unlock my newly-purchased '01 Sable.  I found instructions for disabling this feature in the owner's manual (a series of steps w/ the key in the off and on positions), but the fix isn't working.  Another issue: When I open the door w/ the key, the alarm goes off.  I can then deactivate the alarm by pushing the "unlock" buttom on the key fob.  Other aspects of the security system work fine: Keyless entry (via the fob buttons, or number pad) and autolock (which can be disabled/enabled using the instructions in the manual).  To the best of my knowledge, the car does not have aftermarket systems installed (e.g., remote start).
