Car Alarms: I lost a piece of my keyless entry remote, car key, auto responder

Question
The battery died in my keyless entry/alarm remote and while changing it the positive metal piece inside the remote went missing now I can't get into my car.  I have tried just about everything.  My car key has one of those chips in it so I don't know why the alarm still goes off every time I unlock it manually.  And I have tried starting it and driving it to see if that would work and it doesn't stop.  I eventually had to unhook the battery so the alarm system wouldn't kill it.  What can I do to make it stop without buying another remote?
