Car Alarms: 08 Highlander keyless remote problems, private vendor, toyota dealer

Question
We have been told by our local Toyota dealer that the keyless  system in our Highlander is not at 'Toyota' system - ie. it was installed after market by a private vendor.  They are saying it is a "Master" system.  I have never heard of this brand and it is hard to believe since the owners manual states that the system in the vehicle is made by Denso, which is an OEM.  Question is:  is  it possible for a 'master' keyless remote entry system to have a Denso key fob control, or is this just a ruse by the local Toyota folks.

Answer
It is a practice used at many car dealerships, and yes there is a strong chance
your system is after market, but usually the dealer KNOWS who the installer
is/was, and can direct you to them when if problems pop up.

If not, then locate a local install tech to look it over.
Then see if it actually IS aftermarket.

Best idea if it's important to know. If not and looking to simply
replace it with a longer range, better system.

Good luck.
