Auto body repair & detailing: CLEAR COAT REPAIR, d893, base-coat

Question
I have a motorcycle that was clear coated with PPG D893 and have some spots where the clear coat has been pulled off while removing pin strips.  The base coat is in great shape.  Can I simply blend the bad areas and then respray with the D893?  Is there another type of clear coat I can use?  Thanks in advance for your answers.

Answer
Hi Wolcott,

Actually, Yes you should be able to blend base-coat over the damaged area and then re-clear the whole tank. Remember to degloss the clear on the whole tank with like 800 grit wet so that you get good adhesion between existing and new clear. Go with a fairly light coat on your 1st coat of clear. Sometimes clear over an existing clear has more of a tendency to sag quicker than over base-coat.

As far as clear, you should be able to use just about any type of PPG clear over D893 provided it's prepped. I like D894 or DCU2021 the best, but DC4000 or DC3000 are good choices too.
