Car Alarms: 2002 Mazda Protege 5 Aftermarket Alarm Problem, mazda protege 5, valet mode

Question
QUESTION: My 2002 Protege 5 that I bought a few years ago can with an after market alarm already installed.  The remote for that alarm went dead on me.  I need to know how to disarm the alarm, so I can get in my car and use it without worrying about that after market alarm at all.

Also, my car came with a separate remote, I think this is an original part of the car.  If I disconnect the after market alarm, can I still use the original keyless remote?

ANSWER: To try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE
( if this is a remote starter, the antenna on the
front window glass may also have the over ride
button inset into it.)

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

The next step is if wanting to remove it,
you contact a local technician to
locate it, and affect neccesary service
for you. The original remote if it worked
before, should now too.

That should solve the troubles.

Let me know what you discover.

QUESTION: CHEERS!  It worked!

What do you recommend I do if I want to replace the after market remotes?  Also, My after market alarm would automatically arm (and lock the doors) 30 seconds after I close the door (I locked my keys in the car a couple times - MAJOR inconvenience).  Is there any way of changing the settings so it doesn't do that?

Or should I just forget about the whole thing and just use the original keyless entry?

Once again, thanks for your quick response!

Answer
Well at this point, I would replace it.
Get one that you have fresh remotes and control
over it's functions so you can
have active arming instead of passive.

If not, it's a hit n miss affair with the one you have.
