Car Alarms: 1998 Immobilizer problem, dashboard lights, dash area

Question
QUESTION: Hi Guys
I've got problems with this damn immobilizer, or whatever it is. I've tried several suggestion like locking and unlocking any door or tailgate 5 times then 12 times to clear the immobilizer all to no avail. I recently disconnected the battery to recharge it, and now when i reconnect, although the Headlights and/or indicators DO NOT flash the alarm siren goes off. The only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery once again. Ther is NO starter operation at any time and never has been and the remote key fob does NOT lock/unlock the doors in fact I am wondering if it is the keybob that's causing the problem./ I've changed the batteries and I've gently rubbed over the contacts with a paper towel in case there was any dirt/dust around, but still nothing.
So, in summary, the red immobilizer LED keeps flashing steadily, the remote keybob operates absolutely nothing and although I have ignition and dashboard lights there is NO sign ov life at the engine start .position.
Now getting desperate as the car's been off the road for about a month. Main agent says I need to take the car to them and possibly looking at around £200 to fix, that's after I manage to get the car to their workshops some distance away. Can the key fob be checked in any way?
Any help grately appreciated.
Thanks, Barry
PS Have also tried anoher suggestion, that of shorting out the purple/yellow wire in the door jamb also the black wire to clear the immobilizer, also tried locking and unlocking the car from the inside. NOTHING HAS CHANGWED SO FAR.

AFTERMARKET STARTER KI
ANSWER: It's an after market system
from your description.

You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

But if it does work, I'd keep it this way, and
replace the alarm asap with one you know and
understand how it operates for the best overall
experience.

Let me know if it works for yours.

QUESTION: Hi Sorry for delay in replying but been away on holiday. Just tried your possible answer, but this does appear to be a Chrysler/Jeep alarm system as I can find NO button or switch under the dashboard, and the remote keyfob is a Chrysler/Jeep one with two buttons for lock and unlock. Wondered if it could be the fob that's ceased working. Alarm goes off continuously as soon as the battery terminals are connected. Wondered if yo had any further ideas please.
Thanks Barry

Answer
Nope. Only that if thie is a 1998 Grand Cherokee, the wire is not purple/yellow.
it's green/orange. But still puzzled about the LED.
That usually denotes after market.
So does starter kill.

Redo and see if that wire grounded helps your issue.
