Car Alarms: Security alarm, mercury villager, security light

Question
We just recently purchased a 2000 Mercury Villager sport minivan and the battery died shortly after we got it.  After we took the battery to have it checked we were told it was good.  We reinstalled the battery and within a day the battery was dead again.  We did a little trouble shooting and the CD changer was making a continuous clicking noise without the key in the ignition so, we disengaged it and the tester light on the battery  kept dimming out to the pattern of the security light blinking in the dash.  We are under the impression that the security system is draining the battery.  What further trouble shooting options do we have to resolve this problem?  Can we disconnected the alarm system? or reset it? Look forward to some exert advise to help out with this problem.
