Car Alarms: Alarm Issues Weekly!, legacy gt, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I have a 98 Legacy GT. When I bought the car it did not come with the alarm remote, and only one key. In the past 6 months I've been having a LOT of trouble with the alarm I believe, and twice in the past week! What's happening is I go to start my car and it will not start. Doesn't even attempt to turn over. I've located the reset button under the dash to find a broken button! Eventually the car starts, maybe 2-3 hours later. I have no idea where to go from here. I don't even know why hours later it starts up again. Maybe its' not my alarm? Help! Please!

ANSWER: Alrighty, not familiar with that system but try this:

You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can have a service technician
get under there and remove/replace & repair.
DO NOT leave this system in there or your
headache will get worse.

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to upgrade to a
better, more reliable system.

QUESTION: I found the wires where the toggle switch/override button SHOULD be but it's just two wire ends. No button...now what?! :(

I just want to remove the thing, it's never gone off...and I don't have a remote to it.

Answer
Ok then, get over to the local car alarm shop,
or, Best Buys will have a valet switch that
will fit for your alarm.

In the mean time, the 2 wires that were connected,
now free are what we need here.

Twist together, turn on the ignition,
hold both wires to ground until the siren chirps.

That should reset and place the alarm into
over ride for now. Nothing accept the keyless entry
if installed will operate until you repeat the
same steps.

Then get a new switch and you're all set
or, have a tech remove it and do repairs
to the starter wire.

Have a good day.
Let me know if you were
successful.
