Car Alarms: 2004 Highlander Limited Alarm, valet mode, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: The alarm on my Highlander doesn't seem to activate either automatically or when I lock the doors with the remote. Is there a valet mode I may have gotten myself into by accident or can I reset the remote or the system to default by pressing some combination of keys on the remote?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
direct you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It is a factory security system that came on the vehicle when I bought it as a new vehicle. It is described as a Theft Deterrent Sys/Alarm/Eng Immobilizer on the price sticker that was on the vehicle when I bought it.  My owners manual says there should be flashing lights, honking horn and the inside lights go on if it is opened forcibly without a key or a remote, when the system is armed. My remote locks and unlocks the doors OK and the security system light on the dashboard is lit, but there is no audible alarm or flashing lights when I unlock and open the door by reaching through an open window, which is the way the owners manual says to test the system.

Answer
Ah, sorry I do apologize,
but my expertise is in after
market vehicle alarm systems.

If yours is indeed a factory system,
I suggest talking to one of the
techs in my Forum about this one.
