Car Alarms: Kia Sorento Keyless entry & After market alarm, factory keyless remotes, kia sorento

I have an 03 Kia Sorento. The factory keyless remotes will not program to the vehicle. The dealer thinks it is the ECU. Instead of spending the money to replace the ECU could I just install an aftermarket alarm that would do the same thing as the factory keyless and give me the security as an added bonus? Thanks!
