Car Alarms: 1999 toyota car alarm system., toyota car alarm, car alarm system

Question
I have read the other posts regarding resetting the alarm and i will attempt to follow those directions tomorrow. What i want to know is what causes this particular malfunction? Both times this has happenned to me I got into my car, put the key into the ignition, and the alarm just went off. After about 30 seconds the siren stops making noise, but the red led is still flashing, and I am prevented from starting my car. I do not know how i corrected it the first time. I do know that the red Led can be pushed in and out. It is located just to the left of the steering wheel. Would someone be able to set off the alarm unknowingly by flipping the valet switch?

Answer
No, it's a 2 or 3 stage step set up.
You would need to turn the ignition key to
the on position first, then flip the switch.
Or if push button style, key on, press
and hold for up to 6 seconds to set up override/valet.

So no, probably not unintentionally.
