Car Alarms: Car Alarm - 05 Dodge Grand Caravan, dodge grand caravan, alarm interface

Question
I've been searching for a car alarm for my wife's mini-van.  A couple of places steered me away & referred to dealer only, due to some factory programming/code that they cannot bypass.  They mentioned of using an actual key as a bypass w/ a module, but not safest & most reliable way of doing it.  The dealers will ALWAYS be the highest when services vehciles for any reason, so I don't really want to go there.   I searched & stumble on this post: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Car-Alarms-1513/Adding-autostart-Dodge-Grand.htm that got me interested.  Can a regular person (basic auto elect skills) install a car alarm?  What would be the cost for one of these units?

Answer
Tough truck this one.
The installers are correct. Very complicated to do but
there is an interface module that will make it easier
to interface after market systems.

The DB-CHDL6P2 -
Chrysler Doorlock Alarm Interface & Transponder Bypass
DATA BUS INTERFACE CONTROL & TRANSPONDER BYPASS COMBO:
LOCK/UNLOCK, SLIDING DOOR OPEN/CLOSE (LT/RT), REAR HATCH,
OEM SECURITY ARM/DISARM, PANIC & (-) DOOR TRIGGER OUTPUT
& TRANSPONDER BYPASS: RF OVERRIDE THROUGH INDUCTION
USING LOOP ANTENNA (TRANSPONDER INCLUDED NO KEY REQUIRED)
and runs 99.00 (special order).

Once aquired though, the work is all done at the data
interface plug which makes a seamless connection point.
Less invasive. Clean.

At this point, you could add virtually any remote start/keyless
car alarm etc. It's up to your personal taste after the bypass.

Have a look at
