QuestionI've been searching for a car alarm for my wife's mini-van. A couple of places steered me away & referred to dealer only, due to some factory programming/code that they cannot bypass. They mentioned of using an actual key as a bypass w/ a module, but not safest & most reliable way of doing it. The dealers will ALWAYS be the highest when services vehciles for any reason, so I don't really want to go there. Can a regular person (basic auto elect skills) install a car alarm? What would be the cost for one of these units?

The installers are correct. Very complicated to do but
there is an interface module that will make it easier
to interface after market systems.
