Car Alarms: Ford remote starter, valet mode, remote starter

Question
QUESTION: Bob,
I've a (PowerCode) Ford OEM Silver (1L3Z-19G364-BA) remote starter in my 1998 Explorer. It has worked fine for about one year, but now works intermitently. And when it does start the car, it sometimes idles sluggishly.
The car starts fine with key, and runs great normally. But a remote start usually just cranks.
This seems confusing: ...at first I thought the problem was the remote unit, but my extra remote started the car immediately. Unfortunately, this only worked twice before just cranking again. All batteries are fresh.
Does this seem like the PATS problem you have so many common responses to in the forum?
Boy, these leather seats get cold:)
Sean

ANSWER: I would have it inspected, specifically the PATS
bypass that was used to determine the intermitency.
The "cranking" only suggests the "break" in the
communication between remote starter and starter
would lead to the bypass kit used.

Tell me what you discover upon
evaluation.

QUESTION: Bob, Thanks for responding.
Before I tear my column apart, I'd like to add a couple more symptoms I've noted that may affect your diagnosis:
► When I've started the car with my spare key fob, I can't lock the doors while running with the other fob, and the remote starter indicator light starts to double flash.
► The "quick stop" feature does not work, yet it has during this problem period
► If this unit is in valet mode(?), I can't cgange it. No response to the manual procedure of holding lock & unlock buttons together.
Hope this aids clarity.
Best,
Sean

Answer
► When I've started the car with my spare key fob, I can't lock the doors while running with the other fob, and the remote starter indicator light starts to double flash.<<<<THIS NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED WITH THE MANUFACTRUER OF THE SYSTEM YOU ARE INSTALLING. ALL ARE DIFFERENT. THE LOCKS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE WORKING DURING THE REMOTE CYCLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU HOW.
► The "quick stop" feature does not work, yet it has during this problem period<<<<<SAME ON THIS. THIS USUALLY DENOTES AN IGNITION SET UP IS WRONG, BUT THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO WEIGH IN TO BE CERTAIN
► If this unit is in valet mode(?), I can't cgange it. No response to the manual procedure of holding lock & unlock buttons together.
Hope this aids clarity.<<<<<<<<STILL TELLS ME THE WIRING, IGNITION SET UP SPECIFICALLY, MAY BE DONE INCORRECTLY. ALL OF THESE ISSUES DEPEND ON THE IGNITION STATUS. IF NOT ON THE CORRECT WIRING, THE MIS BEHAVIOR OF THE PROGRAMING WOULD BE WRONG TOO. AGAIN, HARD TO SAY WITHOUT BEING THERE, BUT THAT'S WHAT I HAVE ON THIS TO THIS POINT.
Best,
Sean/Bob
