Car Alarms: lots of alarm troubles, pontiac vibe, prestige alarm

Question
QUESTION: My wife and I recently bought a 2003 Pontiac Vibe that has had a Prestige alarm syatem installed. The first problem is that the remote is broken so we cant deactivate it. The second problem is that with the alarm activated the vehicle will not come out of park. And the third problem is that nothing on the vehicle is getting power except the alarm system. I want to remove this thing but will every thing function properly if I do? Is there a certain way it needs to be removed? Thanks, Jeremy

ANSWER: Well you do have more than 1 issue.
The Prestige system would NOT lock up the ignition
column. That is a problem I would not be able to advise on.

1 st thing here is to call Pontiac and have get a new FACTORY
remote. That would change alot of evils here.

2nd, have a tech take out the prestige wiring so you
can start over.

Without inspection, that's really the best idea here.

QUESTION: The ignition and steering column is not locked. The steering wheel moves freely. The factory GM remote is not the one thats broke. The remote that came with the alarm that is broken. The car will not come out of park with the alarm active and the alarm is the only thing getting power. I dont want to start over, I just want it off. Is there a certain way to take it off.

Answer
Never heard of an after market system doing that?
Try Robert G in my forum at www.INSTALLSUPPORT.com
and explain it this way to see if he has a clue
on why an aftermarket alarm would affect the mechanics
of the transmission shifter.

There is always unplugging the main harness and
trying to reset it that way. But if no joy that
way, it's a bit of a puzzle as to why.

Odd. I'd like that answer myself.
