Car Alarms: 2002 ford escape and xk04 transponder bypass, technical support desk, spst relay

Hi, i am installing a remote starter and XK04 PKFORD bypass in a 2002 ford escape. When i try to program the bypass the 2 keys work fine but when i get to the remote start the starter turns for about 1 to 2 secs then quits and the security light flashes. The remote starter works perfect if i leave the key in the ignition & turned off. I tried installing a spst relay in the pats tx line, but still didn't work.Since it is a spst relay, it wouldn't put a grnd on the xk04 end. Do you think this is needed or have i missed something really obvious.  Thanks in advance  RayJ
