Car Alarms: Audiovox APS510a installed in 2008 Ford Explorer, truck locks, ford sportrack

Question
QUESTION: The company I work for bought a 2008 Ford Sportrack and had an Audiovox APS510a alarm installed. The alarm goes off sporadically and opens the locks. It is also discharging the battery over the weekend. I have been told that Ford has started using a new brain that senses current usage and that by installing the alarm, the brain doesn't know what it is, causing the problems. All I know is it would help a thief at this point and the truck must constantly be jumped. Do you know how to fix this problem or where to look?
Thanks,
Noel

ANSWER: Sounds like an open relay is staying frozen while the
truck ignition is off. This should be looked at
first. The areas to start looking include door locks,
and starter disable.

This vehicle's factory wiring for
installing car alarms, keyless entry and
remote starts is on file.

I sell this info online for these retro fit projects
with the proper wire colors, locations and polarities,
plus relay diagrams, tips and links to get it extracted
safely.

But even if you choose not to purchase, take the truck into
a local shop for inspection, repair or the same thing will
continue.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Could you be a bit more specific (i.e. relay in alarm, relay in truck locks, etc.)? The technician that installed has already given up and doesn't know what to do. Audiovox has been most unhelpful. Can you recommend someone in the Atlanta area that is knowledgeable to take this to? We are looking at using diodes to isolate the alarm from the locks. A mechanic is looking at it and says he sees almost .4 amps current draw when truck is off. This is why battery is dieing, but how to find the culprit or at least limit the scope of the search is more my question. I also am questioning if there is a compatibility issue between the truck and the alarm.

Answer
That's hard to say what the problem could
be without first hand inspection. Pretty involved
to go into here any longer so please, if you
would, restate this question in my installers
forum at www.installsupport.com and see if
my resident technicians there can assist
with this project. More eyes on this may shake
an idea loose.

They can go into a more detailed assistance
you might need on this project.

Good luck there.
