Car Alarms: Car Alarms and Beautiful German Engineering, car alarms, german engineering

Question
I was robbed at gun point and they took my keys to my 2001 Jetta and know where I live.  SO, I am alive and want to prevent them from coming here and taking the car.  I called the dealer and it will cost me %600-700 dollars to re-key the doors and engine.

I was searching online and saw that car alarms were much cheaper with installation included.  I know the Germans don't want anyone tinkering with their cars so I know there will be much more than "standard installation"  The $285 viper system (Best Buy) would require another $300 in labor to get it working.  (This only place I have looked so far to get a ballpark answer)

My question what suggestions does anyone have to getting my car protect better in the future?

Answer
The 01' Jetta with power windows is not rocket science or anything. It is German, so the under panels in this car are built solid, and the electronics are from some other galaxy (normal :>( ),
but doable.

Keep shopping. BestBuy aint all that, and they're overhead
makes shopping there ridiculous. Also Viper is not a good choice at any time in my opinion cuz they seem to disapear after the sale is over if you need assistance. And the markup from the retailer
for DEI products is also up in the stratosphere.

Keep looking for a reputable installer with better equippment.
May be happily surprised.

Good luck.
