Car Alarms: Car alarm sounds when engine starts, jeep grand cherokke, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: Hello.  My son has a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokke.  The most recent headache is that when the engine is running, the car alarm sounds.  When the car is not running, the alarm doesn't either.  Do you know how this can be repaired?  Thank you.

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: I would think "after market".  The car has a "switch" that manually operates the battery.  The switch needs to be turned on prior to starting the engine for the battery to work.  The switch needs to be turned off when the car engine is stopped so as not to drain the battery.  The alarm sounds (siren noise)  when the switch is turned on and does not go off once the engine is running.  So, to drive the car, you hear the siren the entire time.  Hope that helps.

Answer
It does. the trouble is the alarm is always set to trigger
as it does not have a memory to keep. You keep
turning off the entire power system and this is what will
happen.

You need to find another wire that will always
have some current on it, or this can not work
until you over ride using the key on,
press and hold switch for 6 seconds to disarm method.
Get's old.

I suggest a rewire so you can use the alarm.

Good luck,

A.
