QuestionI read your answer to someone else's question and my problem sounds similar and I sure hope you can help me. I have a 1996 Buick Park Avenue Ultra. The friend we got it from bought it at an auction. Anyway, all was well with the car then it wouldn't start. We spent 30 bucks on a new key, and still won't start Most of the time. 8 times out of 10 it will start and then it just refuses to start. We are pretty sure it's something to do with some alarm system, as security flashes on the dash. Having a new key made was a waste of money. I've been out there 4 times trying to start it for the day, and it won't. But as usual, 30 minutes or so it will start. I don't understand why sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. And a dealership wants 100 bucks just for us to take it to them, on top of what ever else the find. I'ts just not reading the chip in the key. Is there any way we can fix this on our own? Any way we can bypass something? Broke but need to drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Michelle in Oklahoma

so please blame the engineers at GM.
It is a flawed and irritating system yes.
The way around it is also posted in several places
on my sites as well. A permanant bypass is suggested.
The IB-IM-PLJX Bypass kit is going to be
needed to get around this safely. (www.PASSLOCK2.com)
It matches the resistance level in the key switch
and allows for the fuel rail to engage with any key
you choose to use. See details on the site.
I wish there was an easy way to magically get it to
work without it, but this is what we have available
short of paying GM a bunch of cash to reset
a system that will likely need it again, and again.
I'd bypass it and go from there with an after market
alarm to pick up the slack. Then no GM passlock issues to
worry bout down the line.
