Car Alarms: 1996 ford van, ford conversion van, car alarm installer

Question
QUESTION: my parents just bought a 1996 Ford conversion van. last night just before bed they noticed the lights were on in the van. when they went out the van was running and they could not get it to turn off. just by accident my husband stepped on the brake and it killed the engine. we just want to by pass the whole system.   I hope you can help. thank you for your time

ANSWER: Don't jump so fast to remove it.
This is a remote starter system and probably
also has a security system with keyless entry.
Is there a remote transmitted available?

If so, one of the button would control the starter functions.
Likely it was depressed to start the engine in this scenareo.
Since it's already in there and operable, it may be
a happy coincidence you can make work for you.

My idea would be to take it to a local
car alarm installer shop, determine what you have in there,
and then learn it's capabilities.

If not, then the same applies. Without knowing exactly
what system is in there, the safest bet is to get
a pro in there to safely remove it and affect repairs
to the wiring.

That's my take on it, let me know
how you proceded to deal with this one.

Good luck.

Answer
On this one, the best thing here is
to go to my installers forum at
www.installsupport.com and see if
my resident technicians there can assist
with this project. I don't know enough
on this system to advise you properly.

Good luck there.
