why is it sometimes i have to unlock the passenger door before my 1993 maxima will start

Answer
Probably because the drivers door cylinder has
been worn down after 15+ years of use, and now
the one in the passenger door or the trunk are
only ones that will disarm it.

If you repair the drivers side switch, then
disarming on that side will be repaired.
