Car Alarms: !999 Ford Mustang GT - PATS problem, ford mustang, mustang gt

Question
QUESTION: I read the answer to the email => 2/16/2008 Subject: 1999 Mustang GT.  My problem is the same, random not starting with key in the ignition the THEFT light flashes engine will turn over but will not start.

Here was the suggested solution from the 2/16/2008 email; "However, in your case, this input wire on the 555P module, instead of going to a momentary ground pulse from an alarm/remote starter, would go to a constant chassis ground, through the bypass module, grounding out the PATS. The PATS would always be bypassed as long as that wire is chassis grounded."

I went to the http://www.bypassmodules.com/ web site for the recommended Directed 555P bypass kit but did not find it listed. My question is; Will the Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 work the same way by grounding the input wire (a remote starter will not be used/installed on my Mustang). The KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 is on the your web site.

Thanks,
Randy

ANSWER: The 555P or, 555F are not on the site.
They are for older models like the 99, but yes I do stock it.
And most certainly, yes, you found the best solution
actually.

The KEY-OVERRIDE SL2 is the suggested module for your car,
& really easy to install.

In stock too. :>)

I hope this cleared it up.

The short answer is yes, grounding it
will kee the PATS inert.

QUESTION: Thanks for your help, my plan was to buy your Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 and take it to my dealer to install.  Now I have to go to plan B because the dealer will not do the work for me.

Plan B is do-it-myself.

Today, after talking to the Ford dealer he said the problem "could" be the the "engine immobilizer" a black plastic ring that acts as an antenna to send a code from the chip in the key to allow the car to start.  He is a typical dealer that wants my car for more $$$$ from my wallet.  Because this is a random problem,  I have been dealing with him for over a year and the dealer "fixed" this for the last time by reprogramming my keys months ago... I still have this problem and it is getting to a point where the car is now stranding me.

Now My New Questions for Plan B do-it-myself:

1.) Does the Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 need the "engine immobilizer" ring to send a code or will this hard wire the by-pass such that this antenna ring is not needed?

2.) It says all connections are made right at the ignition column. Will I need to remove the steering column cover? ...  to do this I need to remove the key lock cylinder and this looks more difficult. Is this what I need to do?
I am hoping I can get to any wires located under the dash behind the knee bolster which I can remove with two screws.

3.) Last question, do you recommend I replace any Ford parts to help the Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 work to bypass the PATS?

FYI ... When this problem occurs it does not matter which key I use (both keys are OEM keys that came with the car in 1999). I am the original owner of car and this problem started about 18 months ago.

If my email is not clear let me know and I will try to explain again,

Thanks again, Randy

Answer
1.) Does the Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 need the "engine immobilizer" ring to send a code or will this hard wire the by-pass such that this antenna ring is not needed?<<<<NOT NEEDED. THE WORK IS DONE CLOSER TO THE IMMOBILIZER THEN THE IGNITION.

2.) It says all connections are made right at the ignition column. Will I need to remove the steering column cover? ...  to do this I need to remove the key lock cylinder and this looks more difficult. Is this what I need to do?
I am hoping I can get to any wires located under the dash behind the knee bolster which I can remove with two screws.<<<<YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE AREA NEEDED UNDER THE DASH AND LEAVE THE
STEERING SHROUD/COVER ALONE.

3.) Last question, do you recommend I replace any Ford parts to help the Fortin KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 work to bypass the PATS?<<<<NO, NOT NEEDED IF THE PATS IS NOT OPERATING USING THE KEY OR READER, THEN THIS INTERFACE IS REQUIRED.

FYI ... When this problem occurs it does not matter which key I use (both keys are OEM keys that came with the car in 1999). I am the original owner of car and this problem started about 18 months ago.<<<<<<UNDERSTOOD. NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM.

If my email is not clear let me know and I will try to explain again,
