Car Alarms: 2006 Hyundai Sonata Anti-theft Alarm, 2006 hyundai sonata, hyundai sonata

Question
I just purchased an '06 Sonata from the Used part of a Chrysler dealership in
San Diego.  Not being entirely familiar w/the Sonata the dealer managed to
sell me on a $400 car alarm by Karr that the dealer said "was already
installed in the car and just had to be activated - if I didn't take it today and
wanted it later it would be much more - like $600-700 since they would
deactivate the alarm before I left the lot today - and they'd have to reinstall
stuff later.
So - A) I noticed there was already a flashing red light on top of the dash that
was a Sonata standard, and B) after getting home I read the manual and sure
enough there was an Anti-theft Alarm that was standard equip.  The manual
neglected to identify the flashing LED on the dash though.
Can you confirm that the Hyundai has the standard theft alarm and that the
dealer owes me a refund for selling something that was redundant?
Thank you.

Answer
Ok, there is a factory security system in the car, but
it is severly limited to noise generating, and headlight
flashing only. The KARR system is installed to enhance it.
It may add a siren, a shock/impact sensor and
maybe a starter kill relay. So, it's not "redundent"
if it has other features than the present piece right?

That being said, 400.-600.
is way out of whack as far as what you get for your dollar.
You were deffinately over charged yes, but that's the
way that goes. It falls under the "after sale" accesories
products that the "closing office" is set up to push
on the buyer as they sign the contracts. Not totally
Kosher, but that's what car sales shops do daily.

But a refund? I doubt it. It's an aftermarket option
that they talked you into. The only thing that the
dealer would have done is keep the remotes if you
chose not to purchase the KARR system. I am
99% convinced that it would have been left in
there if you had'nt. Just no way to control it.

They're cost on the KARR would have been
less than 100.00 for an after market contractor to
supply and install it, so no huge loss if you said no,
and a 300 to 500 dollar profit if you do.

But not grounds for a refund in my mind. He may have
not been completely honest, but how many car salesman
do you know that are?

Good luck with it, and next time, just say no thanks.
