Car Alarms: 99 VW Passat, vw passat, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: The alarm on my 99 VW Passat goes off randomly.  It is with no one around it and will sometimes go for days without a problem.  Then it will go off every 5 minutes for 4 hours straight.  What should I do?  Is there anyway to just deactivate the alarm all together?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It is a factory alarm system, part of the antitheft system.  The horn is honking, and headlights are flashing.  When i lock the door with either the remote or key a little red light (built in) next to the lock on the drivers side door begins to  flash when the alarm is set.

Answer
Ok, sorry for this one, but it's
something they need to look into at the VW shop.
I also was having something simular.

Have them check all of the grounds first.

I have a 99 20t also, and they needed to reground
a strap under the driver seat somewhere. I was
having these kinds of "gremlins" too.

Wish I had better news, but they did locate and fix
the issue.

Good luck.
