Car Alarms: 96 Jeep Cherokee Limited A (UK), jeep cherokee limited, jeep name

Question
QUESTION: My Jeeps battery ran flat and since trying to either jump or replace the battery it remains immobilised, the indicator lights flash all the time, the remote has no effect, not even to put it into Valet as per alarm instructions, nor can it be reset as per instructions, can the entire system be totally bypassed so the car is usable?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Thanks Robert for getting back on this issue…

The alarm is I believe factory fitted, at least the brief instructions have the Jeep name and details on them and came with the paperwork normally associated with the car, handbook etc. it also explains things like up to 4 remotes and the like.

It has a separate siren fitted under the bonnet (hood? Sorry I am English!) there is no light on the dashboard, there is a red light on the centre consol that normally flashes as you arm the alarm, this is flashing with the direction indicator lights as they would if the hazard lights were on.

I have however never heard the siren go off, it appears to have ultrasonic sensors inside the car, but so far all it has done is flash the lights on arm, a single flash when stopping the alarm and a constant red light on the centre consol, this gives you about 30 seconds to start the car normally, you have to reset and start again if you do not start the car.

It also locks all the doors once they are closed and the engine is running, locks all the doors if you do not arm it within about 1 minute.

That is about al I can think of at this time?

Answer
Ah, it's an after market system
from your description.

To simply disarm it, locate and use the
valet/overide switch.

To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed.

Once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no
alarm at all. Repeat steps to put into user
mode.

Let me know how it goes.
