Car Alarms: PATS, alarmtek, salvage yard

Question
QUESTION: I am looking into buying a 99 explorer that was a theft vehicle from a salvage yard IF I CAN START IT. The ignition cylinder is busted out of the column and it can be turned on with screwdriver. There is a key that is said to go with the car, when trying to start i held key to transponder but theft light kept blinking and it would not run. My research seems to show that fuel rail is shut off. I believe a would a PATS bypass module work right? Not sure if chiped key is right, that being said stay away from key in box. Can you reccommend a bypass module that would be preferably cheap but foremost very easy to install for someone with limited low voltage experience while installing at salvage yard.

ANSWER: I can not speak about a damaged PATS system,
like if a thief has destroyed it, or in this
case. removed, because I do not
get into this part of FORD'S security application.

But as a happy coincidence to installing
after market remote starters, this does work on bypassing
transponder in most all FORD vehicles we've run into,
including your year FORD vehicle as well.

Also, this is a self learning, resistor sensing
and adjusting module. Once the PATS wires have been tapped,
you would press the program button to learn,
and it does. The car should then allow start
with any hardware store key.

Hopefully, it will on yours as well.
But if not, no way to get your money back as
the harness is the thing. No guaranty
it will work on your situation, but I do
have them in stock if you want to take a
swing at it.

QUESTION: I checked out the XKO4 that your site reccomends for the 99 explorer and DEI's website that has a installation manual says it needs two keys to program. I want one that will not need any keys just incase the one I have doesnt really belong to the car. Also I will be replacing the steering column so I will be using totally different keys. Can you specifically name one to use that does not need  original keys to make bypass work.

Answer
Sorry, I don't think I can offer one that fits your need.
The universal is one way, but then you give up the last key
you have to make it work. Then ANY key made at
a hardware store would work fine.

But as far as I know, the keyless types all require
2 keys to program.

Universal mods for Ford are 32.00
