Car Alarms: 2004 Grand Cherokee remote starter, 2004 grand cherokee, alarmtek

Question
I just had a remote started installed and was told my key had an anti-theft chip in it, causing the labor to be more expensive for the installation. I was told by a friend I was "taken" and there's no such thing.

Answer
Your friend is mistaken. This vehicle does indeed have
am immobilizer int the ignition, and a chip in the key it reads to allow for remote start.
The Chrysler "smart key" or Sentry key is in all
GC's from 1996 to today.

If they took longer then say 1 hour to put it in, then
they might have tried to gouge you, but no, this
is a standard procedure, and should/will cost extra.

I hope this settles the issue for you.

Enjoy & stay warm!
