Car Alarms: remote entry/door unlock, side kick panel, auto security system

Question
QUESTION: I have a micro auto security system (6007-98) on my Toyota
4 Runner. Yesterday when I unlocked the vehicle with my remote, the doors unlocked but I was not able to open my door. The handle felt like it does when it is locked. I had to get in on the passenger side and was able to open the door from the inside, but not able to open if from the outside after a second attempt. The remote is locking & unlocking the doors but only the driver's door will not open from the outside. I am unable to turn the key in the door to the left - it will only turn right. Would this have anything to do with the alarm or do I have something wrong with the door?

ANSWER: It's probably the "child safety door lock overide"
keeping that from happening. There is a blue/red
stripped wire in the same plug as the door lock wires.
This is located in the drivers side kick panel area.

If this wire was also wired into the after market
door unlock output wire, would unlock the doors
remotely, always. Trouble here is
the switches in the rear doors may have been toggled,
and now engages the safety system.

Have a technician at a car alarm shop (NOT TOYOTA)
look it over & good luck!

Happy Holidays!

QUESTION: The alarm was installed several years ago, is it possible for this to just happen all of a sudden?

Answer
Sure. Over time and temp changes, vibration etc... the electronics can go bad, as well as the connectors and crimps
that were applied during installation. The brain could have a short in it somewhere, but
that can happen with constant use
of some systems over time.
