Car Alarms: Grand Cherokee 1998 Immobilizer, negative polarity, grand cherokee

Question
QUESTION: Dear Allexperts, I have trouble with the immobilizer in my GC 1998, I'm from Switzerland so I have a European model, that means the immobilizer can ONLY be disabled by the Remote, no by key. The immobilizer is perhaps integrated in to the BCM, I want to disable them permanently because I travel a lot to remote areas (Africa) and its to dangerous to stuck because of a lost remote. The car must be able to start with an ordinary hardware key. Could you help me with this issue? Thanks a lot. Ozymandias

ANSWER: Get out some basic install tools or get
a friend or a good technician
in there to do this.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
purple/yellow in the driver door wiring harness.
|- negative polarity|.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.

If the immobilizer stays on, then you would need the
universal bypass module that would allow you to
use another code key to keep the immobilizer for ever arming.
(25.00 + S&H to AFRICA)

Good luck.

QUESTION: Dear Alarmtek

The Problem is the European model has no alarm function in it, it's only an immobilizer, and it isn't the sentrykey system. Together with the key I have this little blackbox with the buttons lock/unlock (no panic button in europe) i've got the 5.9 V8 Limited LX Version of the Grand Cherokee ZJ.
This little Remote is the only way to disarm the immobilizer.
I'll look tomorrow for this purple/yellow cable, maybe its there with luck it works.

Thanks Ozymandias

Answer
Hmmm, Gordon Chumway may have it in my forum @
www.INSTALLSUPPORT.com . He seems to be up on the
Euro versions, and is a nice guy from his responces.

(The name is cool too if I understand the historic meaning.
Being from the states, I watched alot of BBC groing up.)

Give him this question. Might just have the answer.

Let us all know the soultion you discover.
