Car Alarms: 1997 Toyota Avalon Anti Theft Malfunction, toyota avalon, moon roof

Question
Hi,
We have 1997 Toyota Avalon and have recently been having problems with the Anti-theft device.  My mom was driving it the other day and the entire system completely shut off while the car was in motion, as if someone was trying to steal the car.  Earlier, she had used the key to open the door, my sister opened the moon roof, nothing out of the ordinary.  She waited a while and then started the car back up again.  Later that same day, we tried to start the car again and nothing turned on.  My dad and I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, then enabled the security system with the Key Fob, the car started.  We've had to do this same thing a few times since then.  The security system is the original Toyota System.  Other issue of note is that the passenger side door lock gets stuck sometimes when using the automatic controls so we have to manually lock and unlock.  However, we've had the shut down problem when the passenger side door lock has been completely locked (manually).
Do you have any idea what this problem is?  And if so, any estimates on how much it will cost to fix it?

Really appreciate all your time and help!

Best Regards,
Sunny

Answer
The part about the system stopping her while she was
driving is disturbing, as there are no alarms
that I am aware of that would do that. Dangerous.

I would like Toyota to do a code reader on the
computer so find out what caused that before
I would look at an alarm issue.

Let me know more about that particular event
if you can.
