Car Alarms: car alarm, key fob programming, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: My girlfriends 2000 toyota camry has a factory anti-theft alarm. She got into her car like she normally would put the key in the ignition and the alarm started going off. We don't have the key fob and tried everything in the owners manual to shut it off and reset it. Any other suggestions. It is sitting in a grocery store parking lot. PLEASE HELP

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: it is a factory alarm...the horn beeps and the lights flash plus there is a little red light on the dash flashes.

Answer
The problem here is that the "factory" alarm is also
part of the door lock system. Thant means there are 2 ways
this is designed to disarm.
1. using the factory key fob transmitter
to unlock/disarm.
2. using the key in the drivers door, turn left all the
way, then right to unlock/disarm.

If the latter does not work, then the next thing is
to tow it to the nearest toyota dealer for new key fob
programming.

If it was after market, then there is an overide
switch that can be used.

(ie; look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and or, get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.)

Sop that's the options available at this point.

I hope you can work it out to your benefit, and
it turns out to possibly be an after market system.

Good luck.
