Car Alarms: Car Alarm -Parking & Fog Lights always on, fog lights, truck computer

Question
QUESTION: Recently my parking & fog lights are staying on after the ignition is turned off. They go out when the truck computer turns them off to keep the battery from draining. These are the lights that flash when arming & disarming or using the remote starter. Any ideas?

ANSWER: The after maket system installed appears to
have a "lights on for 30 seconds after disarming"
feature set up. If you have the fogs tied into
the parking lights, and they are then connected
to the flashing light output on the alarm,
then you'll need to either disconmect it, or
turn off the feature controlling the output
for it.

For that, a manual for the system is required.

I hope you still have it, or you might
want to take off the light flashing wire
all together.

Good luck.

QUESTION: The lights are staying on for about 15 minutes and never did that before. They always flashed and shut off. Could there be a bad relay causing that now? System came with the used truck, no documentation or manufacturer.

Answer
Ah, not good then. :>(

Ok, there sounds like there is a
relay "frozen" open in the mix here. Best to
have this inspected at a car alarm/stereo shop
to locate and repair this or it will persist.
And might even cascade into other issues if
left unchecked.

Start at the connections for the parking light
output from the remote starter. When located,
remove the connection, for 24 to 48 hours,
and go through the remote starter operation
a few times to test. If the trouble is gone,
then it's a relay problem you will need
to repair/replace. If the trouble continues,
then that repair was just "one less thing",
to worry about, and you can move onto
other possibilities, but start there.

My guess is that the remote starter is
"holding open" the parking light circuit
for whatever reason, and needs to be unplugged
and addressed.

Let me know what you discover.
