Car Alarms: Subaru Alarm issues, subaru impreza outback sport, subaru impreza outback

Question
QUESTION: Hi,  I ahve a 2001 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with a factory alarm system.
ques 1 is that my alarm randomly, no rhyme or reason to when and how/
where.  I had the dealer de-sensitize it, but still the same issue.  is there a
way to disable the alarm while keeping the remote entry in tact?

ques 2: I have had 2 people come to me that own Dodge vehicles and they
apparently have the same frequency as mine and can therefor turn my alarm
off, should I change the frequency?  Any thoughts?

Cheers

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Thanks Robert,

it is a aftermarket set up then, as the alarm siren is what goes off. Even when I
am in the car with the keys in the ignition!  I am told it might be the hood sensor
going bad.  The information with the car does indicate its a Subaru system
alarm, but thats all I can find out.  Let me know what else I can do to help.

Answer
These systems only came with like 12 frequencies.
The trouble is that so did the dodge systems that
your's interacts with from time to time.

Not alot can be done to change it unfortunately.

The major trouble here is yes, you might be able
to disable the alarm part, but if the keyless
entry still unlocks the doors, the the point is
moot.

Try putting into valet/overide (see past posts)
and then you might want to have a local tech
install another car alarm system with different
frequenies.

This may disrupt the conflicting alarm issues
currently troubling you.

Just spit balling here though. Can't see it to
offer more.

I think you need to take it in to an after market
installer for evaluation to decide what to do
next.
