Auto body repair & detailing: Fiberglass repair, grit paper, center punch

Question
Hi:  I have to repair some small holes in the body of my old car "Eleanor".  She's a 1988 Buick LeSabre.  Can I do this kind of thing myself with a kit?  Any tips I need to know that aren't on the instructions?

Thanks very much.

Answer
ok Eleanor it is. well there is a couple ways to fix her up.
1st is the holes in a aera where the rustis.can you get to the back of them?? if yes i would 1st cut out all the rust that caused the rot. this is a must. to keep it from rusting more. you must kill it. 2nd get a piece of metal around 1in larger then the hole and place inside the hole run the rivits from the outside in. after each rivit is in center punch each one so they sink in a little than grind down the eara with a grinder around 3 inchs the size size of the hole. to bear metal than fill it with body filler .let dry. sand down with 1st 80 grit. so it has the rough finish when you run your hand across it it should feel like the car survice expect for the rugh sanding feel. if ok put on 1 more thin coat of filler let dry sand with 180 grit paper. litly . feel it again if all ok prime and paint. if not do it again.thats the way we fix holes.
now anthorer way to do it is to. ask around to your buddys someone knows someone that does bodywork. you can work out a deal with them to do it. . well good luck..hope this helps
