Car Alarms: Alarm went off after battery died Car wont start, immobilizer system, valet service

Question
My battery died and when I got it Jumped the car alarm went off I disconnected the battery because I do not have a remote. It is a factory installed alarm and I purchased the car used. I tried to jump it again because my car wouldn't start after, I even went out and purchased a new battery. But now I believe The alarm shut down the system. Please help me get my car started. it's a 1997 accord.

Answer
Gotcha, let's put it into valet/service mode,
and try to reset the alarm to default mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

Let me know if it works for yours.

To answer your question, these are 2
different cars security wise. The 2000
Accord has the Honda "smart key" immobilizer system
and the 1997 version does not.

So different capabilities here. My guess is
the 97' has an after market (siren and flashing
parking lights) car alarm, and the
2000 would not since it came as standard equipment
but you can always look under the dash in the
2000 and try to apply the same suggested
overide to make certain.
