Car Alarms: 1991 Acura Integra alarm, alarmtek, acura integra

Question
QUESTION: I purchased a used 1991 Acura Integra privately.  The alarm system doesn't work.  Won't arm or disarm however, when it rains the alarm won't let the car start.  We can't disarm it and after car dries out it starts.  We want to totally disconnect alarm.  How do we do that?

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: The alarm doesn't actual go off at all when this occurs, the car just can't be started and, like I stated in my original question, the alarm doesn't seem to work at all under normal circumstances.  We try to arm and disarm the alarm and nothing changes, it doesn't sound when we open the door and we can start the car, it is just when it rains the car won't start.  We are thinking that water gets in to the alarm box and causes it to malfunction so we just want to totally disconnect it.

Answer
It's an after market system
from your description.

To simply disarm it, locate and use the
valet/overide switch.

To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no
alarm at all. Repeat steps to put into user
mode.

Let me know how it goes.
